Mad Day 2 Special is a two-phase side-scrolling action game playable in the browser with no installation. In the driving phase you steer ex-Marine Bob's vehicle across a hostile landscape, ramming and shooting waves of alien enemies while jumping over obstacles and collecting coins scattered along the road. Every run ends in a crash screen that tallies your score and coins, which you spend in an upgrade shop between rounds. You can boost engine power, tire grip, weapon damage, and armor across roughly a dozen upgrade tiers per category. The combat phase puts Bob in a side-scrolling shooter segment where you aim and fire at aliens attacking from multiple directions. Difficulty ramps up every few stages with faster enemy waves and tougher boss-type aliens. A typical session of driving, fighting, upgrading, and replaying lasts fifteen to twenty-five minutes. The game supports keyboard controls and on-screen buttons for touchscreen play.
