Mad Day Special is a two-phase browser action game that combines side-scrolling driving with on-foot alien shooting, all running in-browser without installation. In the driving phase you steer a truck across hilly terrain, tilting the vehicle to avoid flipping, firing a rocket launcher at alien spacecraft that swoop from above. Land safely to enter the on-foot phase, a linear shooting run where you blast waves of aliens from left to right. Between rounds you visit an upgrade shop where in-game coins fund improvements to engine power, tire grip, hull armor, gun damage, rate of fire, and character clothing that provides stat bonuses. There are dozens of upgrade tiers across six categories, so progression remains meaningful for ten-plus hours of play. Difficulty rises steadily as alien formations grow denser and projectile patterns diversify around stage eight onward. A typical session of three to five rounds runs about ten minutes. The game saves upgrade progress in the browser so you resume where you left off.
