Nightmare Runners is a multiplayer obstacle-course race game inspired by elimination-format game shows, running in the browser against online players or bots. Each race puts up to 8 runners on a nighttime track packed with spinning blades, collapsing platforms, swinging hammers, and monster characters that knock players backward. The course is divided into three segments separated by narrow gates; runners who are not through a gate before it closes are eliminated on the spot. Only the top 4 from a standard 8-player race advance to the next round, and a final round of 4 decides the winner. Controls involve running, jumping, and a dive move used to slide under low obstacles or recover from knockbacks. Tracks rotate from a pool of over a dozen layouts, so the exact trap arrangement changes each session. A full three-round event takes about eight minutes. No installation is required and matchmaking is automatic on page load.
