Paper Minecraft is a free browser game that recreates the core Minecraft loop in a flat 2D side-scrolling format built in Scratch. You choose between Survival mode, where hunger and hostile mobs threaten you at night, and Creative mode, which grants unlimited blocks and no damage. The world generates procedurally with distinct biomes including forests, deserts, and underground cave systems. Mining is done by holding the mouse button over a block; crafting opens a grid where you combine collected resources into tools, torches, and shelters. Progression follows the standard tier ladder: wood, stone, iron, gold, and diamond tools each unlock faster mining and stronger weapons. A typical Survival session runs 20 to 40 minutes before you establish a defensible base. No installation is needed and progress can be saved through the browser. Skeletons, spiders, and creepers spawn after dark, so building a shelter before the first night is the central early-game priority.
