Cave Crusade is a browser-based tile-based strategy game in which you navigate a knight through multi-room dungeons filled with spike traps, patrolling skeletons, and locked doors. Each level is a grid where every action, including moving one tile, attacking an adjacent enemy, or picking up a key, counts as a single turn. Enemies and traps also act on each turn, so planning two or three moves ahead is essential to avoid taking damage. Your knight has a fixed hit-point pool that carries across a level but not across the full campaign; dying on a stage restarts only that stage. The campaign spans 20 levels split across 4 themed dungeon zones, each introducing a new mechanic such as moving platforms or ranged archers. A level typically takes 2 to 6 minutes to solve, and the full campaign runs 90 to 150 minutes. Difficulty increases sharply from level 12 onward, where multi-enemy rooms require precise sequencing. The game runs in the browser without installation, using arrow keys or WASD plus a spacebar attack input.
