Counter Wars is a browser-based multiplayer shooter with no download and no install - you create a room or join one and you are in a match against other players within a minute. The controls are the standard FPS set, WASD to move and the mouse to aim and fire, so anyone who has played a shooter before can move and shoot immediately and spend their attention on the map instead of the keyboard. The tactical layer is what actually decides rounds: holding an angle, covering a teammate's flank, and choosing which fights to take rather than walking into every one you see. Because it is player against player, there is no pattern to memorise and no difficulty setting to raise - the competition hardens as the room fills with better players. Rounds are short, and because the game lives in a browser tab you can drop in for a single match.
